Being a creative means having the ability and power to create. A creative shows sensitivity and imagination and grows or makes or invents things. I always saw myself as a creative ever since I was young. Painting, drawing, and inventing was more than a hobby to me.

Finding My Specialty

When I first started off creating art I tried multiple outlets, including hand drawing, painting, photoshop, and hand drawn computer graphics. Having an art outlet helps you create your own space and creations, for finding the right media outlet that fits your personality and makes you happy is one of the first, and most important steps.

Developing My Skills

Being a self taught artist is hard because I have had to teach myself techniques and tools on my own. I learn a lot of these techniques through the use of Youtube videos.

Youtube is a wonderful tool for self teaching because many videos posted via the website are step-by-step tutorials, time-lapse videos, and demonstrations with voice over commands. It's also a great tool to take advantage of because it allows you to learn at your own pace—for free!

Building My Clients

The best and fastest way to create growth in your new found art businesses is to be supported by others. Networking and finding clients while in college wasn't hard for me. As a college student, networking is one of the first thing's you are taught to do. Being self taught and in my opinion "mediocre" when I first started out did not stop me from gaining clients because I was always open to any opportunity and any project. I believe that allowing myself to be open to trying new things helped me grow artistically. As I grew as an artist, my business grew, and so did my network. Because of this, I added a website and social media page for my work to be displayed so that perspective clients could easy access my portfolio and my contact information.

I learned that a degree in art isn't required to become an artist. It is all about your specialty, skill, and networking. This is how I became the artist I am today and allowed me to enter so many spaces I never knew I would be involved in. Today, I am so happy that I found a unique and passionate way to combine my art and a professional business.
