Different artist have various ways of drawing, different specific techniques, and contrasting styles. As a self taught artist I by no means have the perfect way to draw an eye, but through trial and error I found a quick and easy way to draw an eye for beginners in procreate.
The Eye
The eye is an almond shape item so you want to start by creating an almond shape outline. Inside this almond shape, draw about ¾ of a circle, cutting off at the top of the almond shape, inside the shape of the eye. Next, add where you would like your pupil and highlight to be. This outline will come in handy in the next few steps.
Color Start the coloring of the eye with a base color. For base color I suggest choosing the darkest color in the eye that appears often. On top of the base color add each additional layer of color that you find within the iris.
For the pupil you want a color as close to black as possible. (It helps if you have an image in front of you and creating a palette from that image.)
Lighting and Shadows
Understand how light interacts with the eye is one of the harder parts.
First, you need to determine which direction the light source is coming from. For this you need to understand color, perspective, and lighting. For lifelike looking eyes you want to add depth and wetness to show how the item is 3d and more realistic.
Quick Tips for lighting and shadowing:
Add shading using light diffraction in the cornea
Show lighting through the cornea
Shade a darker color near the light
Add shadows and wrinkles within the iris
